Molybdenum-99 is used in special generators to produce single photon emitting radionuclide Tc-99m. Mo-99 has a half-life of 66 hours, it can be delivered to hospitals as a generator, where it can be used as the source of Tc-99m.

Tc-99m is used as a radiochemical for medical diagnosis, such as brain tumors. Many pharmaceutical preparations with this isotope are known for examination of various organs.
